Lochristi is a municipality in the Flemish region of Belgium. It is located in the Ghent district in the province of East Flanders 8 km northeast of Ghent. Lochristi has 21 779 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2012) and an area of 60.34 km ². The municipality consists of the nucleus and the three districts Beer Velde, Zaffelare and Zeveneken.
Traffic
The next highway exits are located at the district of Beer Velde at the A14/E17 and in Ghent. In Lokeren and Wetteren offers the nearest regional stations in Ghent and also keep on regional express trains.
Economy
Since about 1800 Lochristi is known for its horticulture. Above all, begonias and other ornamental plants are grown here, some in large greenhouses.
Tourism
In Lochristi is also the Provincial Domein Puyenbroeck.
