Development and revisions

1519 and 1520 Melanchthon dealt extensively with the Romans, the Apostle Paul, whom he treated in lectures. His studies grew into a systematic presentation of the fundamental theological teaching concepts. His studies and lecture notes published 1520/21 in several unauthorized reprinting what inspired Melanchthon, the substance to work properly and fully themselves. The first edition of the loci was released in December 1521 and was immediately received as a comprehensive and fundamentally new dogma of the Lutheran Reformation. For the Protestant theologian loci replace the " speculative sums and Sentences comments scholasticism ". From this they differed in two major ways: They are an interpretation founded solely on the Bible, the biblical message, and they have an experience theological approach.

The second edition of 1535 was greatly expanded. In her Melanchthon's humanistic embossing is clearly to the fore, " by attempting to convey Christian truth with insights of ancient philosophy. " Also, now returned in the first edition of 1521 deliberately did not follow arrangement of the chapters according to the Christian salvation history as an organizing principle back.

With the third edition of 1544 loci reach their final form as a sample text of the older Protestant orthodoxy. Significant substantive shifts are especially apparent in the doctrine of free will, which was mitigated here over the rugged rejection in previous editions.

The last edition of the loci appeared in 1559, shortly before Melanchthon's death.
