Lockheed Martin X-44 MANTA

The X -44 " MANTA " (Multi- Axis No- Tail Aircraft / multi-axis aircraft empennage lot ) should test the ability to build a fully maneuverable in all axes plane, which does not require height and vertical stabilizer. Changes of direction should only be performed by pure 3D thrust vector control.

The aircraft should be developed from the F- 22 by extending the wings and remove the tail. The project never got beyond the design stage, however, and was discontinued in 2000.
