History

Named is the place according to the locks ( locks ) on the Miami canal. With the construction of the canal 1825-1845 Locklands the recovery began. 1828, after the completion of four locks in this area, the plan to establish a community of Nicholas Longworth and Lewis Howell was filed. 1849 Lockland was recognized as a distinct community and got a council.

The four locks, Lockland gave the name, not only brought the canal boats in the area, but provided by the possibility of using the gradient to drive water wheels and energy for industry. With the beginning of the railway age in the 1840s, the importance of the canal boat trip took off quickly. However, the locks of Lockland were still in operation until 1929. Then, the channel has been used in this area as route for today's Interstate 75. Lockland benefited from following this modern thoroughfare.
