Lodewijk Prins

Lodewijk Prins ( born January 27, 1913 in Amsterdam, † 11 November 1999) was a strong Dutch chess player and chess journalist.

Chess players

Prins represented the Netherlands 1936-1968 in all 12 Chess Olympiads. In 1965, he won on tie-break against Coen Zuidema the championship of the Netherlands. Other major successes were No. 1 in Birmingham in 1937 (along with Eliskases ), his victory in the 1948 Hoogovens tournament in Wijk an Zee and his first place in 1951 in Madrid.

1950 FIDE awarded him the title of International Master, 1982, he was Honorary Grand Master. His best historical Elo rating was 2604 in December 1951.

In the Grünfeld Indian Defence 1.d4 Nf6 variant is named 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5 4.Nf3 Bg7 7.e4 0-0 5.Qb3 dxc4 6.Dxc4 Sa6 after him.

Chess journalist

Prins was responsible for the chess column in various newspapers.
