Mountain ranges of the Isan

The river Loei ( Thai: แม่น้ำ เลย - Maenam Loei ) is a tributary of the Mekong. The river source is located in Northern Thailand, on the western edge of the 848 km2 Phu Luang plateau in the districts ( Amphoe ) Wang Saphung, Phu Ruea, Dan Sai and Phu Luang. From there, the Loei initially flows southward. Finally, the flow changes direction to the east and is the natural border between the provinces of Loei and Phetchabun. After it flows around the mountain Phu Ho, it changes its direction northward and reached the provincial capital Loei. From here the river 47 km running north to the border town of Chiang Khan and finally ends at Tambon Na Sao in the Mekong.
