Logan County (Kentucky)
Logan County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Russellville, which was named after General William Russell.
Geography
The County is located in southwestern Kentucky, bounded on the south by the State of Tennessee and has an area of 1443 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Kentucky clockwise to the following counties: Muhlenberg County, Butler County, Warren County, Simpson County and Todd County.
History
Logan County was formed on June 28, 1792 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after General Benjamin Logan. 1868 was the Southern Deposit Bank robbed by the gang of Jesse James.
Logan County is the birthplace of Jim Bowie, one of the defenders of the Alamo in 1836.

According to the census of 2000, there were 26,573 people in Logan County. Of these, 315 people were living in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 10,506 households and 7,574 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 90.70 percent White, 7.62 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.33 percent from other races groups; 0.96 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.08 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,506 households out of which 33.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.2 percent were married couples living together, 11.2 percent were single mothers, 27.9 percent were non-families, 25.0 percent of all households and 11.4 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.96.
Based on the county the population was spread from 25.7 percent population under 18 years, 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.5 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.8 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 93.1 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were 90.4 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 32,474, and the median income for a family was $ 39,307. Males have a median income of $ 29,750, women $ 20,265. The per capita income was $ 15,962. 10.8 percent of families and 15.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 20.5 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 18.6 percent of those 65 years.
