Logan County (West Virginia)

Logan County is a county located in the state of West Virginia in the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 37 710 inhabitants and a population density of 32 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Logan.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern West Virginia, approximately 35 km away from the border of Kentucky and has an area of ​​1108 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lincoln County, Boone County, Wyoming County and Mingo County.

History

Logan County was formed on January 12, 1824 from parts of Cabell and Kanawha County and the Giles and Tazewell counties in Virginia. It was named after the chief of the Mingo Logan Indians, a subgroup of the Iroquois. 1921 took place here with the Battle of Blair Mountain one of the largest armed insurrections in U.S. history place when miners were trying to fight for better working conditions.
