History

Place name

Varying local Name: Lonewilre off the Lutern ( Documentary first mentioned 1326) Lonwilre ( 1361 ) Lonewijlre ( 1364 ) Lonwiler and Loenwiler ( 1483 ) Loinwiller ( 1506) Lonwiller ( 1578) Lohweiller ( 1643) Lohnweiler (1824 ) The origin of the place name is disputed. It probably derives from the hall called " Loh (s) " and the attached settlement name " Hamlet " from.

The prefix " reward" may consist of the Old High German lô or tan in the meaning ' forest ', ' grove ', ' wood ', ' grove ', resulting bushes. As Lohe the tree components used for tanning are called. Another origin of the name could be in the symbol of a wage shown in the coat of arms. However, More is not known here. The still relatively large forest area of the district makes the forest as a name more likely.

The containment of an industrial name suggests that today's district area was probably only just ( forestry ) used economically and is denoted by a field name, and later a small settlement, a " hamlet " was born.

The present territory of the wage Weiler district was inhabited in ancient times, with numerous historical artifacts from the Roman and Celtic period attest to this. 1884 out four Celtic tombs were discovered to Wolfsteiner Gemarkungsgrenze. There necklaces, bracelets and anklets were found, which are now in the Historical Museum Speyer. Even Roman brick pieces, pitcher residues and bronze coins were found with the emperor portrait.
