The Lohr Lohr am Main

The Lohr is a right tributary of the River Main in the Spessart in Hesse and Bavaria. It arises in the Main- Kinzig district south of Lohrhaupten by the confluence of the creek and Lohr Flörsbach and ends in Lohr am Main in the Main-Spessart district in the Main.

Name

The name Lohr goes back to the Celtic adjective larch, which means broad and flat. The Lohr gave the city its name to Lohr am Main. The root lies in the name of running near river Hafenlohr.

Geography

Headwaters

Lohrbach

The Lohr creek rises in Lohrhaupten from Lohr source. He leaves this place in a southerly direction. With about 4 km in length, it is the shorter but relatively water-rich source stream. He is also regarded as the upper reaches of Lohr.

Flörsbach

The 6 km long Flörsbach rises in the same place Flörsbach beside a small lake from several sources.

Course

Behind the Flörsbachtaler district Kempfenbrunn the Flörsbach flows right along with the coming from the north and forms the Lohr Lohr Bach.

Shortly after its creation, the Lohr crosses the border of Hesse to Bavaria and flows Frammersbach where the creek empties Lauber, who still Flammersbach was at least to the 16th century. The Lauber Bach is also often referred to, particularly in Frammersbach sources Lauber Bach. The meadow land to the Lohr part of the nature reserve at Spessart meadows. In Partenstein it passes under the viaduct of the Main-Spessart -Bahn. Here the Lohr flows to their biggest tributary, the right Aubach. The Lohr now reached Lohr am Main, where it splits and then empties into the Main.
