Loïc Wacquant

Loïc Wacquant ( born 1960 in Montpellier ) is a French sociologist.

Life

Wacquant is Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley and also a researcher at the Centre de sociologie européenne (CSE ) in Paris. He is one of the most important disciple of Pierre Bourdieu and has published with him and about him. His main research areas are urban inequalities, the American ghetto, the French banlieue, the prison and the racism.

In 1997 he was MacArthur Fellow.
