Lojze Kovačič

Lojze Kovačič ( born November 9, 1928 in Basel, Switzerland, † 1 May 2004 Ljubljana, Slovenia) was a writer and educator.

His father was a Slovene, who worked as a furrier in Basel, the mother German. In 1938, the family was deported to Slovenia ( Kingdom of Yugoslavia ). The father died soon after, the mother was reported at the end of World War II as a German and came around in a warehouse.

Kovačič worked as a teacher with young people. He wrote plays, directed and performed in the Center for Youth Culture in Ljubljana. The Slovenian author counts in his home country of the most important novelists of Slovenian modernism.
