Loki-Fögrufjöll

F6

Loki Fögrufjöll ( Hamarinn or Lokahryggur ) is a volcano under the Vatnajokull glacier.

The volcano is located within the Bárðarbunga - volcanic system, but is from Bárðarbunga itself independent.

In the 1910 eruption of tephra was ejected, but there was possibly subglacial eruptions in 1986 and 1991 as well as 2006 and 2008.

The eruption of 2011

On 12 July 2011 a glacier eruption took place due to a subglacial eruption of Loki Fögrufjöll. The glacier burst from Köldukvíslarjökull, part of Vatnajökull ( glacier ) in Southeast Iceland, starting, which is located in an area that had not been held for a geothermal area. The tidal wave flowed through the Svedja flow down into the Hágöngulón Lagoon and the Þórisvatn Lake. A tidal wave had never previously vergezeichnet in this part of the glacier, although the volcano possibly had subglacial eruptions in 1986 and 1991 at various locations. The level of Hágöngulón rose during the tsunami of 70 centimeters ( accessed on December 5, 2011).
