Lomas de Zamora Partido

Lomas de Zamora is the name of an administrative area ( Partido ) of the Argentine province of Buenos Aires and also the name of its main town. It is part of the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, and is located about 15 kilometers south of the center of the city of Buenos Aires.

In the 89 km ² Partido total of about 591 345 people ( 2001). In the decade before the last reporting period, the population increased by about three percent. For the year 2007, the population was estimated at 619 527.

Location

Lomas de Zamora is delimited by the extremely heavily polluted Riachuelo River from the actual Buenos Aires in the north. In addition, Lomas de Zamora is bordered in the north- west by the Partido La Matanza, on the east by the Partido Lanús, on the southeast by the Partido Quilmes, on the south by the Almirante Brown Partido, and to the west by the Partido Esteban Echeverría.

Cities and towns

Lomas de Zamora is divided into seven towns and cities, so-called Localidades which are completely fused with each other and with the neighboring partidos. Almost the entire surface of the Partidos is built, which is why the growth of increasingly finds expression in the vertical direction for several years. The capital and administrative seat of the Partido is the city of Lomas de Zamora, the largest city in the Partidos is Banfield.

Education and Science

The local university, the Universidad de Lomas de Zamora ( UNLZ ), is one of the largest in Greater Buenos Aires.

Sports

The Lomas Athletic Club is one of the founders of Argentine football. In 1893, he became the second club came to Argentine championship honors. By 1909, five more national championships were added. But the great successes of the pioneering days of this sport should not take long. Today, the CA Banfield and CA Los Andes represent the district in the highest Argentine football leagues; highest success of these clubs was winning the Apertura 2009 by the CA Banfield.
