Lomazzo

Lomazzo is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9343 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Como in Lombardy. The municipality is situated approximately 13 kilometers south-southwest of Como and about 27.5 kilometers north- west of Milan.

History

For the first century BC necropolis is detected in the municipal area. Probably a settlement has existed here since the 3rd or 4th century BC. With the Christianization by Ambrose, bishop of Milan, the region was then under Milanese rule. However, the community went through the border between Como and Milan: The parish of San Siro was assigned Como, Milan San Vito. Since 2007, the community holds the title Città (city ).

Traffic

Lomazzo is located on the motorway A9 from Milan to Como on towards Switzerland. On the railway line Saronno -Como is a train station.
