Lombard, called The Lilac Village ( German and the lilac community), is a suburb of Chicago in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. According to an estimate by the United States Census Bureau in 2004, 42,975 inhabitants lived in the town.

History

The country of today Lombard, which originally belonged to the territory of the Potawatomi Indians, was first settled around 1830 by European immigrants. The Ralph and Morgan Babcock brothers settled in a grove near the DuPage River. To this nucleus is developed in Eastern Lombard, Glen Ellyn and in a westerly direction. In 1837 the town was connected by a stagecoach line with Chicago. Other settlers as Sheldon Peck and Harrier came about 1837 in the area.
