Main competitors were mostly Italian small engine manufacturers (eg Ducati, Ruggerini, Acme Motori ). In the late 1980s Lombardini had introduced new water-cooled engines, so that as a competitor the established manufacturers of these engines ( entirely in Japanese) were added. Since then, Lombardini are also stronger, used in small construction equipment, eg vibratory plates, also the German company Hatz engine factory is in some areas a competitor of Lombardini.

In the beginning there was water-cooled engines and tractors were introduced to bottom stehendene engines (starting with 3LD ).
