Lomié

Province

Lomié is a town in the district of Haut- Nyong in the region Est ( Eastern Province ) of Cameroon. In Lomié approximately 8,000 inhabitants. The county Lomié lies on the eastern edge of the nature reserve " Dja " which is a biosphere reserve since 1981 and since 1987 a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Formerly, the city lived on the timber industry. After the finding of cobalt and zinc in the area, the mining company Geovic uses the city as a base station. In Lomié still are a number of interesting historical buildings from the German colonial rule. Among them are a prison, courthouse and post office.

The streets of Lomié lead in the north to Mindourou by Abong - Mbang, to the east by Messok and Yokadouma and south to Ngoyla. The city attracts tourists occasionally visiting the nearby nature reserve. Therefore, there are also a number of small guesthouses and hotels.
