Lomilomi massage

Lomi Lomi Nui, also called Lomi Lomi (traditional Hawaiian massage ), is a form of massage that originated from Hawaii. It is similar in its original form rather therapeutic body work as a massage and has the ambition to address not only the body but also the soul. She was part of a medical treatment. The massages offered as Lomi Lomi in the West, however, are primarily spa treatments.

In the local language lomi means as much as rubbing, kneading, or press, doubling reinforces this importance. Nui means great, important or unique. Lomi Lomi Nui can therefore be translated as " unique strong kneading " as a term for a special form of massage.

Origin

Lomi Lomi comes from the traditional healing arts of Hawaii and was part of the local natural medicine, especially herbal medicine ( la'au lapa'au ). This was practiced by shamanic healers ( kahuna ). The Lomi massage was thus only one element in the treatment of diseases. She was also part of initiation rites in the transition to a new phase of life and the priesthood, which is why sometimes spoken of " Hawaiian temple massage " in the West. Every healer developed his own style of massage according to the family tradition and lore, so it never has given Lomi style on Hawai'i only one " real". With the Christianization of the Hawaiian population by American missionaries in 1820, the exercise of the religion of nature and also the traditional medical treatment was banned, so they only had illegally possible. As a pure relaxation massage but Lomi Lomi was allowed. In Europe, it was not until the end of the 20th century, known primarily as a spa massage. The treatment

A Lomi massage is not only relaxing, but also according to their claim of physical, mental and spiritual cleansing. The Huna view of health and disease similar to that in traditional Chinese medicine: to flow in a healthy body the energy (mana ), diseases causing blockages that manifest themselves physically and tension. The massage is intended to solve these blockages on a physical and spiritual level and restore the harmony of body, mind and soul.

This massage usually lasts about two hours. There is a lot of oil used, originally from the kukui nut. The practitioner is not only working with your hands, but with the entire forearm including the elbow. There is also the four-handed lomi massage, performed by two people simultaneously. The movements are basically fluent and easy swinging, with the " real" treatment of Hawaiian music and songs accompanied on which moves to the rhythm of the massage around the massage table.
