Lomsdal–Visten National Park

The Lomsdal - Visten National Park (Norwegian Lomsdal - Visten nasjonalpark, South Sami Njaarken vaarjelimmiedajve ) is a national park in Norway. It is located in the province of Nordland and belongs to the municipalities Brønnøy, Vevelstad, Vefsn and Grane. The 1102 km ² large park was opened on 29 May 2009 to protect its unique, unspoiled nature with its varied ecosystems, animals and plants, their geological and cultural heritage.

The Lomsdal - Visten adjacent to the 32 km ² Straumann nature reserve, which was opened on the same day at Visten fjord. The nature reserve Skjørlægda in Vefsn, and the nature reserves Laksmarkdalen in Vevelstad and Strompdalen in Brønnøy went on to the National Park. In the southeast of the park is the Børgefjell National Park.

Geography, landscape and geology

The park stretches from the sea and the fjords in the west, across different landscapes to Visfjellan mountains in the west, which is part of the Scandinavian Mountains. To the south, the valley and the Eiterådalen Sven Happenings Dalen valley with the river Svenningdalselva, also the National Park borders there almost to the village Tosbotn the roar of the fjord.

In general, the landscape of mountains, plateaus, steep canyons, river valleys, small lakes and other water bodies is dominated. In Vistfjellan there are large caves and mountains of limestone. In the rivers in the park, there are some larger rapids and waterfalls. The mountain is Vistkjerringa moh with 1,239. the highest in the National Park.

Flora and Fauna

In Lomsdal - Visten there are many large coniferous and deciduous forests. From the abundance of animal and plant species are threatened or endangered 44. This includes swans, black-throated diver, red-throated diver, woodpeckers and various lichens and fungi. The flora and fauna in the park is representative of the whole Helgeland.

Management and tourism

There are several simple huts in Lomsdal - Visten that serve hikers as overnight cabins. The hunting and fishing is possible only with permission.
