London Assembly

The London Assembly is a popularly elected legislative authority in Greater London. It constitutes the executive Mayor of London, the Greater London Authority and is authorized to monitor its official business to conduct investigations to amend the budget and make suggestions.

Basis of this authority is the Greater London Authority Act 1999 which, after a meeting organized on 7 May 1998 in future application area with a low turnout of 34.1%, with an approval rate of 72 % befürwortendem referendum was passed by the British Parliament.

The London Assembly is elected by a mixed electoral process, similar to that of the German Bundestag. There are 14 constituencies, each with a seat where chosen after Majorzverfahren. The remaining 11 council members are determined by proportional representation, with electoral lists for the entire city. Here is a five-percent hurdle and in the single-member districts already assigned seats are taken into account in the counting procedures, without any ensuing overhang seats.
