Long ball

The term Kick and Rush (English, such as " shoot and storm " ) comes from football. He referred to an outdated offensive play, when the ball is hit out of the defense high and far forward in the penalty box in order to reach a rapid conclusion. The advantage is that there is no lengthy build-up play is necessary. The disadvantage is that for the forward scan are difficult to control, that can also be easily averted because of the long flight time of the ball on the opponent's defenders and converted to a dangerous counter attack. Kick and Rush applies because of this risk and the low chance of success as inefficient attack tactic and is usually considered only when a team is short before the end of the scarce residue and little time for the balance remains.

This variety has long been an important component of football in the British Isles.

During the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa Franz Beckenbauer has accused this outdated way of playing the English team in the opening game against the United States, what the British press has raised angry and against him.

To all appearances, despite being " Kick and Rush " is a German term, at least he was there to Franz Beckenbauer's World Cup comment, not common. The superficial meaning of " Kick and Rush ", which assumes a wild kicking forward appears disparagingly. This may have been one reason for the negative reaction of the British press Beckenbauer's comment. A more moderate English-language alternative is "the long ball".
