Long Iceland Head Light is the name of a lighthouse on the eponymous island Long Iceland in Boston Harbor on the territory of the State of Massachusetts in the United States. It is administered by the Coast Guard of the United States.

Location

The lighthouse is located on the northeast tip of the island belonging to Boston Long Iceland in Boston Harbor.

Architecture

The standalone cylindrical structure was built in the Italianate style brick on a granite foundation. The building is white, the fire house painted black.

Design and data

The light of the tower reaches 6 nautical miles (11 km ) wide. The present building was built in 1901, is 52 ft ( 15.8 m) high and consists of bricks. The lighthouse was automated on 7 August 1989, generated every 2.5 seconds a white flash of light.

Genesis

From 1716 to the early 19th century, the Boston Light was the only lighthouse in Boston Harbor. The first lighthouse on Long Iceland was established under the name Inner Harbor Light in 1819.
