The island is located 15 km north of Pointe Louis -XIV, the cape, which marks the transition from James Bay to the actual Hudson Bay.

It belongs politically to Qikiqtaaluk Region of the Canadian territory of Nunavut. Its area is 168 km ². The elongated island has a longitudinal extent of 50 km and a maximum width of 5 km. To the east of the island its highest elevation is 53 m.
