Long John Baldry

Long John Baldry ( born January 12, 1941 in East Haddon, Northamptonshire, England; † July 21, 2005 in Vancouver ), actually John William Baldry, was a British singer and blues musicians who took Canadian citizenship later. Due to its size of over 2 meters, it was called " Long" John. John Baldry was considered one of the fathers of British blues movement that began in the 1950s.

Biography

John Baldry learned the trade of a Werbegraphikers. Early on, he discovered his love of blues and folk music. The late 1950s, he met Alexis Korner know. In 1961, he became a singer in the band Blues Incorporated, which in 1962 brought out R & B from the Marquee, the first British blues album.

After a long stay in Germany was John Baldry member of the Cyril Davies ' All Stars. As Cyril Davis died in 1964, Baldry took the band under the name Hoochie Coochie Men on. Another member of the Hoochie Coochie Men was Rod Stewart.

Baldry and Stewart founded in 1965, the band Steampacket, which also included Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll. Baldrys next project was 1966, the band Bluesology, in which a certain Reginald Dwight began his career, the later Baldry and Elton Dean was called in honor of Elton John.

In 1968, Baldry sparked by the blues and started to hoof it in clubs as an entertainer. Let the Heartaches Begin With, he had a hit in England.
