Long Night of the Sciences

A Long Night of Sciences is a now well-established form of public relations: in this way to introduce yourself to greater research locations in Germany the local academic institutions with insights into their research areas.

Origin

The event format of the Long Night is based on the successful " Long Night of the Museums" in Berlin. Within the framework of science summer of 2000 in Bonn it was first transferred to the academic institutions. The following year, Berlin was followed with great resonance: 61 972 visits were counted.

Berlin and Potsdam

The 9 " Long Night of Science " in Berlin and Potsdam on 13 June 2009 offered more than 2,000 program points of 67 participants (incl. about 353 institutions / institutes ) in 160 buildings or venues. 15 special buses were on the road. Approx. 238 750 visits were counted.

Dresden

On July 6, 2012 took the network from the " Dresden - City of Science " organized 10 " Long Night of the Sciences" in Dresden. Overall, four universities and 38 other research institutions participating in the event. A total of 35,000 visitors attended the 603 individual events at 129 locations in the city.

Nuremberg, Fürth, Erlangen

Every two years, " The Long Night of Science " in the triangle formed by Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen offers from science and technology, medicine and health, as well as humanities and social sciences. A well-founded in 2003 the event opens on Saturday, October 22, 2011 for the fifth time its doors. Visitors can convince both the performance of the five universities in the three Middle Franconian cities, as well as gain insight into the research fields of large facilities. Of the up to 300 partners, guided tours, lectures, exhibitions, discussions, tours, experiments and practical examples are offered, the program includes a wide range of astronomy to zoology.

The participating event locations are connected in the Long Night of Science by a special bus network.

In 2011, some 30,000 visitors were recorded at 130 venues.
