Features

The 28 cm long parrot Breitrachen is 50-60 g. He is a small, stocky -looking bird with a long tail, large head and short, broad bill and short legs. The predominantly green plumage has a black hood, a yellow- green face, a yellow throat and a white necklace. The tail is colored blue.

Occurrence

The distribution area of the parrot wide pharynx extends from the eastern Himalayas through Southeast Asia to Borneo and Sumatra. He lives in montane rain forests, subtropical forests, bamboo thickets in, but also in secondary forests.

The parrot Breitrachen applies IUCN as a common and not endangered.

Behavior

The parrot Broadbill is a gregarious bird that draws outside the breeding season in small groups through the woods. It feeds on insects, which it catches in flight or in the branches of the trees either.

Reproduction

In a large, pear-shaped and hanging from a branch nest of twigs and grasses, with a covered side entrance five to six eggs are laid. Both parents participate in the birds nesting and rearing the young.
