Long-tailed marmot ( Marmota caudata )

The long-tailed marmot ( Marmota caudata ), also called Langschwänziges marmot or Red Marmot, is a species in the family of squirrels.

Distribution area

The distribution area of the long-tailed marmot joins the steppe marmot of and covers the western part of the Tianshan Mountains and Pamir - Alai. It also comes in the west of the Kunlun, the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan's Badakhshan and Karakorum and in northern Kashmir before.

Within this rather large distribution area, the long-tailed marmot is found generally at altitudes 1400-4800 meters. The largest settlements are found here in the high mountain steppes of the Alai and the high mountain deserts of the Eastern Pamirs.

Scientific classification

For the systematic classification of marmots among other things, the construction of the genital bone is taken.
