Longcochon

Longcochon is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Longcochon is located on 861 m above sea level. M., approximately 13 km east-northeast of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in the Val de Mièges on a spur of the high plateau of Mignovillard, between the lowlands of the Serpentine in the north and the Settière in the south.

The area of ​​3.64 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the height of Longcochon, the East continues to the plateau of Mignovillard. It is mainly composed of meadow and pasture land. With 886 m above sea level. M. is achieved at the height of the highest peak east of Longcochon the community. To the southeast, the municipality's area on the Talniederung the Settière extends to the adjacent plateau. The Settière ensures the drainage of the area to the west of the Serpentine to Ain.

History

Is first mentioned in the 13th century Longcochon. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the rule Nozeroy. In 1639 it was sacked and destroyed by the passing troops of Duke Bernhard of Saxe- Weimar. Together with the Franche -Comté Longcochon came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 48 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Longcochon one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 130 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Longcochon was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Nozeroy after Mignovillard. Another road connection with La Latette.
