Black Mackerel ( Scombrolabrax heterolepis )

The Black Mackerel ( Scombrolabrax heterolepis ) is a representative of the perch family ( Percomorpha ). The animals live in the subtropical and tropical areas of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, at depths from 100 to 900 meters. You lack in the eastern Pacific and the southeastern Atlantic Ocean.

Features

The Black Mackerel is a maximum of 30 inches long. It is dark brown in color, has a vorstreckbares mouth, the edges of Vorkiemendeckel and gill covers are cut. The number of vertebrae is 30, the swim bladder is provided with thin protuberances 5 extend into bubble-like invaginations of the vortex to 12.

Fins formula: Dorsal 12/14-16, Anal 2-3/16-18.

System

The Black Mackerel combines features of the Real perch ( Percidae ), mackerel ( Scombridae ) and the snake mackerel ( Gempylidae ). It is therefore placed in a separate family. Probably the Black Mackerel is the primitive sister species of snake mackerel ( Gempylidae ), hair tails ( Trichiuridae ), mackerels and tunas ( Scombridae ).
