Longobardi, Calabria

Longobardi is a municipality in the province of Cosenza Calabria region in Italy with 2248 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The distance to the province of Cosenza capital is 38 km. The local tradition lives on the place name to a foundation by the Lombards in the time of King Liutprand ( 712-744 ) back; However, it lacks a historical basis.

It covers an area of 19 km ². The municipality consists of the villages ( frazioni ) Ambricella, Bardano, Campolevari, Frailiti, Piro, Ranci, Rigillo, Salice, Sant'Andrea, Santa Croce, Serra Olive, Siren, Tarifi, Terra Rossa, Vardano and Longobardi Marina seaside resort on the coast of the Tyrrhenian sea. The community is a member of the Comunità Montana dell'Appennino Paolano and in the Regione Agraria n.9 - Montagna di Paola Litorânea.

The neighboring municipalities are Belmonte Calabro, Fiumefreddo Bruzio and Mendicino.
