Lontara alphabet

Lontara is a Brahmanical Scripture, which for the buginesische language (see Bugis ) and some related languages, such as Makassar and Mandar was used. Through the Dutch colonization of the font is out of use. The term Lontara is the Malay name for the Palmyra palm, Lontar derived whose leaves were traditionally used for manuscripts. In Buginese is this font called " urupu sulapa eppa ", which means " four-corner letters".

Unicode contains the Lontara font under the name " Buginese " in the 1A00 - 1A1F.

Structure

Lontara is written from left to right. Each consonant has an associated, not written a vowel Other vowels can be written by one of five accents, bottom, or side of a character.
