Lónya

Lónya is a town in Szabolcs -Szatmár -Bereg county in northeastern Hungary. It has 661 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

History

Although small, Lónya played a historical role as the seat of the important noble family in the region Lónyay that owes the place also their family name. At the end of the 14th century, the village was divided into two settlements: in Kislónya and Nagylónya; the family lived in Lónyay Nagylónya. 1934 reunited to Lónya Kislónya and Nagylónya.

Attractions

The village is small but has many tourist attractions. The Reformed Protestant church in Romanesque style with the painted ceiling cassettes from the XIII. Century stands in the Kossuth utca 91 The church consists of a room does not have a tower. The standing on a beam ground in the garden of the church bell tower with four side towers in 1781 is a historic monument. A 6.3 -hectare castle park belonged to Lónyay Castle, which burnt down in 1965. In the park you can still see some interesting plants: The avenue of chestnut, five 26 -meter pyramid oak trees that are already at least 120 years old, but also the early and Tatar maple trees are over 100 years old.
