Looft

Looft is a municipality in the district of Steinburg, in Schleswig- Holstein.

Geography and transport

Looft is located about 10 km north of Itzehoe in a rural environment. A few kilometers west runs the Federal Highway 23 from Itzehoe to heather, a few kilometers north of the main road 430 to Neumünster and a few kilometers east of the main road 77 from Itzehoe to Rendsburg.

The Bekau, the Nonnenbach, the Lammsbek, the Schönbek, the Siersbek, the Reihnkampsbach, the Voßbergsbach and fir meadow brook flowing through the Loofter district.

The municipality consists of the villages of Kath site Schönbek pond and Kate.

History

The villages in the area of Looft have emerged in different periods and have thereby developed various forms. The characteristics of the landscape, the course of meadows and paths and the once water-filled valleys have influenced this development. According to the Schleswig-Holstein Topography from 2005 testify Flint artifacts such as axes and flint daggers the presence of people in today's municipal area in the Neolithic period (about 4300-2300 BC ). As impressive witnesses of their burial culture they left behind, among others, a so-called giant bed ( grave elongated hill with several stone chambers ). This grave site is located in the eastern part of the district in the state forest ( Sharp Horn ). However, it is mostly destroyed. In addition to this giant bed were in Looft still several tumuli ( burial mounds ) from the Neolithic and the Bronze Age ( about 2300-1600 BC ), which, however, were leveled in the meantime. From a grave originate two bronze swords and a bronze dagger, which were found in 1887. In another hill 1893 excavators found a spearhead, a dagger and a sword. Remains of iron slags were found in 1976, indicate a prehistoric iron smelting.

The prehistoric inhabitants of the landscape laid their settlements on sand like heights, which were surrounded by meadows and marshy areas. The village itself lies at elevations Looft 6-14 meters above sea level and the highest point of the district, the mountain stronghold, a height of 33 meters above sea level can at least have.
