Lopar, Croatia

Lopar (Italian Loparo ) is a village on the Croatian island of Rab in the Adriatic. It belongs to the County of Primorje- Gorski Kotar.

The place takes its name from the Marienkirche obtained ( sta Maria Neopari), was first mentioned in the 16th century. At Cape Punta Zidine there are ruins of ancient fortifications. According to legend, the legendary founder of the Republic of San Marino, the sculptor Marin, was born in Lopar. The town has 1,263 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). The town has two churches, the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The village was originally coined by agriculture and fishing. The houses of the inhabitants are usually grouped on the slopes of the peninsula. In the 19th century it was the site due to its location and beaches a popular seaside resort.
