Lopevi

Lopevi and neighboring islands

Lopevi is an uninhabited island of the province Malampa in Vanuatu. The island lies southeast of Ambrym and east of Paama. The island consists essentially of a volcanic cone, which has about seven kilometers in diameter. The cone reaches a height of 1413 m. The Lopevi is since 1862 erupted about 22 times. By 1960, more people lived on the island, but they are, drawn to the neighboring islands due to the threat posed by volcanic eruptions.

The Lopevi is located on the subduction zone between the Pacific plate and the Australian plate.
