Loprazolam is a benzodiazepine of moderately long duration of action. The indications, contraindications and interactions are similar to those of all benzodiazepines. It can lead to psychological and physical dependence after a short application. Monopreparations include Dormonoct, Havlane, Sonin, Somnovit (in various forms up to 2 mg). Loprazolam is mainly used as a hypnotic but also as a sedative. In Germany the last preparation with Loprazolam ( Sonin ) was taken off the market in January 2006.
Dose
The dose of Loprazolam insomnia is usually from 1 mg, but can be increased to 2 mg, if needed.
Side effects
The side effects generally similar to those of other benzodiazepines. In Loprazolam the following occur most frequently:
- Somnolence
- Paradoxically, increased aggression
- Dizziness
- Confusion
- Muscle weakness
- Ataxia ( especially in the elderly )
- Amnesia
- Headache
- Hypotension
- Blurred vision
- Dysarthria
- Tremor
- Altered libido
- Jaundice
- Rash
- Dependence
Legal status
Loprazolam was included ( negotiable and prescription narcotics ) in the Federal Republic of Germany due to its performance in the Appendix III of the Narcotics Act ( Narcotics ). More information can be found in the main article narcotics law in Germany.
