Loquard is a town in the municipality Krummhoern in the district of Aurich in East Friesland. In the village of 614 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

History

1744 fell Loquard as quite Ostfriesland to Prussia. The Prussian officials created in 1756 a statistical overview for commercial Ostfriesland. In that year there were in Loquard 35 merchants and artisans, more than in most crumhorns villages - with the exception of Greetsiel and Pilsum. Culture and sights

Among the attractions of the place is one of the nave, clinkers and church. It was built in the 13th century and is 34 meters long. Inside, a precious carved altar with the representation of the Passion of Christ. It is a Flemish carving that originated about 1520.

Next to the church was located in the middle ages a castle, in which the chiefs lived. The castle has been destroyed on the orders of the 15th century at the end of the Pirates time. The preserved only the annular moat, which is accessible via a wooden bridge, and inside which there is now a small garden situated in which the outlines of the old castle are simulated by roses.

The Loquarder primary school has been set up in an old Gulfhof. Here sometimes events take place the Rural Academy Krummhoern, and during school holidays the school is used for exhibitions.

Sports

Sports Club of the place is the FC black and white Loquard. It was founded in 1928 as a football club Alemannia black and white Loquard and remained such until the inauguration of the sports hall in Loquard 1981. Since then, indoor sports are offered, among other things, the club has a table tennis division.
