The Lord Ligonier, a British slave ship.
History
The Lord Ligonier sailed on July 5, 1767 140 slaves as cargo on board the Gambia River at Juffure on the West African coast to Annapolis, Maryland. With 98 surviving slaves the ship on September 29, 1767 reached the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Davies.
Kunta Kinte
For his novel Roots Alex Haley assumed that Kunta Kinte his ancestor was kidnapped on this ship. Then he set up his semi - fictional family history. This was also filmed in 1977 as Roots.
