Loren Murchison

Loren Murchison ( born December 17, 1898 in Farmersville, Texas, † June 11, 1979 in Lakewood, New Jersey) was an American track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

Murchison won the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships over 60 yards in the years 1919, 1920, 1922, 1923 and 1924., The 300 yards he gained in the years 1919, 1920, 1923 and 1924. U.S. Track & Field Championships, he won the 100 meters in the years 1920 and 1923 and about 200 meters in the years 1918 and 1923.

The VII Summer Olympics in Antwerp in 1920, he was ranked fourth in the 100 -meter run and sixth in the 200 -meter run. In the 4 x 100 -meter relay race he won with his team-mates Charlie Paddock, Jackson Scholz and Morris Kirksey the gold medal with a new world record, ahead of the teams from France ( silver ) and Sweden ( bronze). At the VIII Summer Olympics in Paris in 1924 after he also participated. As four years earlier, he finished the 200m in sixth place and won in the 4 x 100 meters relay again the gold medal, this time together with Louis Clarke, Frank Hussey and Alfred LeConey, also with a new world record time, ahead of the teams from Great Britain ( silver) and the Netherlands ( bronze).
