Lorenz Caffier

Lorenz Caffier ( born December 24, 1954 in Weixdorf, today part of Dresden ) is a German politician ( CDU) since 2006, and Minister of the Interior of the State of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern and since 2011 Deputy Prime Minister.

Life and career

Lorenz Caffier was born as the third son of the Protestant minister Wolfgang Caffier and his wife Ingetraut in Weixdorf near Dresden. After attending the Polytechnic High School (POS ) Caffier completed a vocational training with school for forestry skilled workers. Subsequently, he completed a 18-month military service in the National People's Army and began in 1976 to study at the Engineering School Berlin- Wartenberg, which he finished in 1980 as a graduate engineer of Agriculture and Forestry Technology. He then worked from 1980 to 1983 Customer Service Engineer at VEB Progress agricultural machinery in Neubrandenburg. He then took over the technical management of LPG ( P) Lichtenberg. From 1989 to 1990 he was its chairman.

Lorenz Caffier is married and has four children.

Public offices

After the state elections in 2006 led to the formation of a grand coalition. On 7 November 2006 Caffier was appointed by the then Prime Minister Harald Ringstorff (SPD), Minister of the Interior. Following the Government on 6 October 2008, due to the resignation of Ringstorff from his position as Prime Minister, the Interior Ministry remained his responsibility. In Caffiers responsibility as Minister of the Interior and the sport remains. Since 2006 he is Chairman of the Defence Committee of the Federal Council.

As interior minister was Lorenz Caffier responsible for the safety of the World Economic Summit in Heiligendamm in 2007, in relation to which it was donated by Realakt use a medal of the country. One focus of his work is the fight against right-wing extremism. A decree of Lorenz Caffier in the tradition of radical decree is intended to prevent the use of a " disposition testing " that right-wing extremists are appointed to public honorary positions such as honorary mayor. At the beginning of 2012 Caffier assumed the rotating chairmanship of the Minister of the Interior in accordance with the conference, which he in turn handed over to the Interior Minister of Lower Saxony at the beginning of 2013.

Member of Parliament

From March to October 1990 was Caffier at the first freely elected People's Chamber of the GDR.

Since 26 October 1990 he is a member of the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Here he was from 1990 to 2006 Parliamentary Secretary and spokesperson for sports policy of the CDU parliamentary group. He was also at this time board member of the National Sports Federation.

From 1994 to 2006 Caffier was a member of the district Mecklenburg- Strelitz, and held, among other things, the position of deputy council president or political group leaders there.

Party

Caffier occurred in 1979 in the CDU of the GDR. His admission he describes as: "I am what has been called after the reunification of a recorder. " He was from 1990 to 2005 Chairman of the CDU district Board of Mecklenburg -Strelitz and 1993-2005 national treasurer of the CDU in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. From 2005 to 2009 was Caffier Secretary-General of the CDU Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania. Since November 2009 he has been chairman of the CDU state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. He succeeds Jürgen Seidel in this office.

At the state election in September 2011, he ran as the CDU 's lead candidate, but could not prevail against Prime Minister Erwin Selle ring itself.
