Laurenz Spenning (c. 1400/1410, † 1477 in Vienna ) was an architect of the Gothic and 1454-1477 head of the Fabric of St. Stephen's Cathedral. Its fundamental importance for the development of architecture of the 15th century was discovered only recently.

Spenning was probably active in Dresden in his early days, where the choir started in 1437 the late Gothic Cross Church showed similarities with its design language. Presumably, he has also worked in Strasbourg and Ulm to the local ecclesiastical major projects.

1446 Spenning from Melk was launched as Parlier under Hans Puchsbaum at St. Stephen's Cathedral until 1454 he himself took over the management of this nationally influential Bauhütte.

Other works include a draft Rauthausneubau in Vienna, the concavity of the town church of Steyr and the vaulting of the Cathedral of Pressburg / Bratislava. Many of these activities were formerly attributed to Hans Puchsbaum.

1456 Laurenz Spenning was responsible for the reorganization of the professional charter as a leader in the national conference of the German language ingen stonemasonry work, the Regensburg Hüttentag. Here the authorship of the designing architect is emphasized and responding to the increasing individuality and artistic autonomy of the construction plans for the first time.

In 1470 he had a new building for the Vienna Opera del Duomo build, ready presented the expanded space for the training of foremen and probably also for archiving an extensive inventory of architectural drawings.
