Lorenz von Stein

Lorenz von Stein ( born November 18, 1815 in Borby at Eckernförde as Wasmer Jacob Lorentz, † September 23, 1890 in strife Village Weidlingau ) was constitutional lawyer, sociologist and economist.

Life

Until 1832 he was a pupil of Christian care home in Eckernförde. From 1835 to 1839 Lawrence studied from stone at the universities of Kiel and Jena, philosophy and law. During his studies, he became in 1836 a member of the fraternity Albertina Kiel and in 1837 a member of the United fraternity on the castle cellar Jena. In the years 1841/42 followed by studies and research stays in Berlin and Paris. After his habilitation in Kiel, he was just there for only a lecturer and associate professor of political science in 1846. 1848 stone remained as an observer for the Frankfurt National Assembly again in Paris.

In the elections to the Constituent Assembly of Schleswig-Holstein in 1848, he failed in the 4th electoral district Holstein (Kiel, Plön ). In a by-election on 28 March 1850, he was elected in 23 Holstein constituency ( Preetz ) in the State Assembly.

Because of his active participation in the Schleswig-Holstein movement against Denmark, he was relieved of his 1852 Kiel Professor Office. From 1855 he was Professor of Political Economy at the University of Vienna, where he worked for 30 years.

He died in 1890 at his country estate in Weidlingau in Vienna. Stone was buried in the Protestant cemetery Matzleinsdorf (Group 17, No. 227). In Vienna Penzing ( 14th District ), the Lorenz - stone street is named after him and in Eckernförde the Lorenz - of - stone ring.

His son Alwin stone (* 1848 in Kiel, † 1919 in Vienna) was a painter.

Work and impact

As one of the first German artists of French socialism and communism sat stone significant impetus to the history of political ideas in Germany. In his early theoretical work stone tried to mediate between the system-critical perspective of socialism and communism with the bourgeois-liberal idea of ​​progress.

In his later theoretical writings stone picked up the rigid opposition between the general idea of ​​the state and each particular social interests. He postulated a task shifting public action by the rule of law to the welfare state.

An influence of Stein's ideas on Karl Marx is considered likely, but has not been established. A special reception in Japan during the Meiji Restoration is occupied.

In Kiel, the Lorenz von Stein Society works to Kiel eV with predominantly right political activity. The company sees itself at the same time as Friends of the Lorenz - von-Stein Institute of Administrative Sciences, an institute of the Law Faculty of the Christian -Albrechts -University of Kiel.
