Lorenzo Lotto

Lorenzo Lotto ( * 1480 in Venice, † 1557 in Loreto ) was an important Italian painter of the High Renaissance.

Life

Lorenzo Lotto was a pupil of Alvise Vivarini possibly (1446-1505) and was influenced by Giovanni Bellini ( 1430-1516 ). He left Venice, before Titian (1477-1576) could have affected him, and worked in Treviso and Bergamo. Around 1510 he visited Rome.

As Lotto came back to Venice about 1526, he took up Titian's color scheme, but his work was clearly influenced by his restless personality; he was constantly changing style of painting and place of residence. He died in a monastery in Loreto, which he joined in 1552 occurred.

His account book of 1538 is now up as a valuable historical document.
