Lorenzo Marcello

Lorenzo Marcello (* 1603 in Venice, † June 26, 1656 at the Dardanelles ) was a Venetian admiral.

He was the son of Andrea Marcello di Giacomo and Elena Priuli. In 1641 he took part in the Adriatic Sea at a sea battle against the fleet of Pope Urban VIII. In 1655 he led in place of Admiral Francesco Morosini the fleet against the Ottomans.

1656, during the War of Crete, he slapped together with Maltese associations in the Dardanellenschlacht the Turkish fleet. It was the biggest victory of the Republic of Venice since the battle of Lepanto. Lorenzo Marcello lost his life during the battle. Took command of Admiral Badoer.
