Lorenzo Ricci

Lorenzo Ricci SJ ( born August 2, 1703 Florence, † November 24, 1775 in Castel Sant'Angelo, Rome) was the 18th General of the Society of Jesus.

Life

Ricci comes from one of the oldest and most distinguished families of Tuscany. After the successful visit of the Jesuit high school in Prato Ricci became effective on November 16, 1718 with 15 years in the Society of Jesus a. He studied at the Collegio Sant'Andrea and was called to the end of his studies as a lecturer at the religious college in Siena. There he taught in the years 1725-1731 the subjects rhetoric and philosophy.

Subsequently, he studied himself again in Rome. His studies ended on August 15, 1736, the day on which he also passed his religious vows. He remained until 1741 as a lecturer in Rome. 1743 Ricci was appointed professor of theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. 1751 Ricci moved to the Collegio Romano as spiritual. 1755 he was appointed the 17th General of the Order, Aloysius Centurioni, Secretary to the Order. As Centurioni died on 2 October of the same year, the General Assembly of the Order Lorenzo Ricci on May 21, 1758 for the 18th general of the Society of Jesus.
