Lorenzo Staelens

Lorenzo Jules Staelens ( born April 30, 1964 in Kortrijk ) is a former Belgian international footballer and coach. He is currently active as a sports director.

Career

Staelens began his professional career in his hometown at KV Kortrijk. In 1989 he moved to FC Bruges. He was four times Belgian champion and three-time Cup winner. After nine years, he moved in 1998 to RSC Anderlecht, where he was able to celebrate two more championship titles. He trailed off at Oita Trinita his career in the J. League in 2001.

Staelens played 70 times for Belgium and was able to achieve eight goals. He was in three World Championships in the squad: WM 90, WM 94 and WM 98

Staelens was briefly in the 2002/03 season coach at Excelsior Mouscron, but was fired after poor results. In the 2003 /04 season Eendracht Aalst hired him as head coach. After two months he quit because of problems with the association president. Since 2013 he has been head coach at Cercle Bruges after having the previous coach Foeke Booy replaced.
