Los Angeles Dons

The Los Angeles Dons were an American football team that played in the All-America Football Conference ( AAFC ) and in Los Angeles, California was home.

Foundation

In 1944 was founded as a rival league to the National Football League ( NFL), the AAFC to life. Founded as the league by a sports journalist from Chicago who could gather many interested investors in Football around. The League awarded a total of eight franchises. A player eligibility acquired a partnership to the businessman Ben Lindheimer, who settled the team in Los Angeles. Co-owner of the team have included Don Ameche, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.

Each team was responsible for the team composition itself. The AAFC took in 1946 on the operation of gambling. Coach of the team was Dudley DeGroot, who had previously coached the Washington Redskins. DeGroot was replaced the following year during the season by Mel Hein, who in turn had to give Jimmy Phelan 1948. The Dons wearing their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Achievements

The Dons won in 1946, seven out of 14 games in their first game of the year, total included a victory against the motion of Otto Graham Cleveland Rams, who could decide the championship this year. With the outcome of the championship the Dons had nothing to do in the next two years, although in 1947 they once again scored a victory against the Browns. They included two rounds each from seven wins and seven defeats. After a season with only four wins the Dons had, as is the complete AAFC adjust their gaming operations.
