Los Kjarkas

Los Kjarkas are a Bolivian musical group, Capinota in 1965 by the brothers Hermosa - was founded and Édgar Villarroel - Wilson, Castel and Gonzalo. The group's name has its origin in the word qarka what "strength" or " power " means in the Quechua language.

History

The first Kjarkas

The members earned their living by going from village to village, playing Argentine zambas. The indigenous Bolivian music was not yet developed enough. Gradually, however, their own rhythms of the country began to enforce more, such as Cuecas, huaynos or Bailecitos. Among the composers were Simeón Roncal, Gilberto Rojas and Teófilo Vargas.

In these years of transformation Los Kjarkas found their style led to her later success.

Re- establishment

After these beginnings, the members left the group and Gonzalo Hermosa founded the new group with the musicians Eddy Carpio, Antonio CANELAS and Alcides Mejía. During the next 10 years perfected Los Kjarkas their compositions and their interpretation of Andean music. In the Bolivian capital La Paz, they presented for the first time in 1975. During the same year they made the contribution to the Bolivian Folklore Festival in Brazil.

In 1976 they released their first album in Mexico, Bolivia, consisting of nine songs that were almost all composed by Gonzalo Hermosa. These song Bolivia is virtually became the second national anthem and be part of any of their concerts.

After these initial successes, the group expanded to Ulises Hermosa ELMER and (13 November 1960), Toño CANELAS, Gastón Guardia (26 May 1959), as well as Guillermo Ponce and Édgar Villarroel ( homonymous with the founding member ).

The compositions of Ulises Hermosa and the vocal interpretation by Elmer Hermosa and the contributions of Gastón Guardia are among the most important works of the group.

So they released in 1977 their second album, Sueño milenario de los Andes (translated as: millennium dream of the Andes), or as a double LP named " Fortaleza " with songs have strong folkloric roots 1977-1978.

The group became very popular, not only in Bolivia, but with concerts in South America and in Europe, North America and Japan.

In 1980 she published Cóndor Mallku where they begin to speak romantic themes that move away from the traditional folklore and renew itself rhythmically. With this album show the artistic skills of the Hermosa brothers. In songs such as Ella it or Pequeño amor they tell philosophically and poetically of love.

1981 met Julio Lavayen and Ramiro de la Zerda to the group and the album Desde el alma de mi pueblo is published. With each album, their success grew and in the 80s they were the most important band of Bolivia with international success.

1984 were invited to the XV Festival of popular music in Japan where more than 1,800 songs from around the world were in competition and were awarded Los Kjarkas. Florcita azul came in 10th place and the foundation stone for the particular success in Japan, which was still continuing down.

End of the 80s, the French group Kaoma had a worldwide hit with the song Lambada. This is based on Ulises Hermosa Llorando se fue, which was registered in Germany. Kaoma had to compensate Los Kjarkas with a larger sum of money.

In the following years there were further changes in the composition of the group. Significant songs of the decade are Canto a la mujer de mi pueblo, Wayayay, Imillitay, Oruro, Tiempo al tiempo, Chuquiago Marka, Solo. 1989 comes out the only purely instrumental album, Ch'uwa yacu.

A check is carried out in 1992 with the cancer death of Ulises Hermosa. Before he died, he finished the song El árbol de mi destino (translated as: My destiny tree ), which was published posthumously Los Kjarkas. In 1993, the album Hermanos is published. Gonzalo Hermosa Gonzalez: singer, composer and leader of the group, was born on October 2, 1950 in Capinota (Cochabamba ).

Elmer Hermosa: Lead singer of Kjarkas, born on 13 November 1960 in Capinota (Cochabamba ). He is a composer and younger brother Gonzalo. He also plays typical instruments such as the Ronroco or the charango.
