Los Monjes Archipelago

Los Monje (Spanish Archipelago Los Monje, German archipelago " The monks " ) is a group of small islands in the Gulf of Venezuela, about 35 km north of the Paraguaná peninsula and about 75 km west of Aruba located. Administratively, the islands belong to the Venezuelan Federal Territories; however, they are claimed by Colombia.

Los Monje consists of three groups barren and steep rocky islands which together have a land area of only 0.2 square kilometers:

  • Monje del Sur (height up to 70 m, at 12 ° 22 ' N, 70 ° 54' W12.366666666667 - 70.9 ), two joined together by a causeway islands. On Monje del Sur is a lighthouse.

On Monje del Sur, the Venezuelan Navy operates an extension Coast Guard Station ( Estación de Secundaria Guardacostas ) named Capitán de Navio Felipe Batista, which is the main station Punto Fijo downstream.
